Body Type Analysis!

The mystery of body types is something real! I know what you are going to tell me while rolling your eyes: “Sally, there are 5! Duhhh! It’s so easy, we all know them!”

Well, sorry to break it to you, but there are more than just 5 body types! Oh yeah, you heard that right! I myself was surprised when I first discovered this.

The 5 body types we all know are the main categories under which we can find more if we focus on extra features in each body.

However, you need to understand that they categorized them into 5 just to simplify the matter for us!

Before explaining my point with some proof, allow me first to clarify these 5 body types:

Let’s start off with the PEAR shape, or in other words the TRIANGLE. Usually, a triangle-shaped person has small shoulders and larger thighs and hips. In addition, they have a tiny, more or less defined waist. To simplify the concept, you can simply picture a pear in your head: its bottom is larger than its top. I am a perfect example of a pear.

After that, let’s touch on the RECTANGLE. They say a rectangle is the perfect shape for modeling. I don’t know why, but that’s what they say. Usually, a rectangle body has shoulders, waist, and hips equal in size. People with rectangle shape have no waist, yet they do have a big bust.

Next body type I will be addressing is the CIRCLE or APPLE. Generally, women with this body type have shapely legs, and they will never gain weight in that area, which makes their pregnancy look amazing. On another note, their body tend to carry extra weight in the middle area, hence the apple/circle shape that appears in their midsection.

Then we have the HOURGLASS shape. They say that this is the perfect figure. Well, to me, every body type is perfect; you just need to know how to dress it right. However, the reason behind that saying is that it’s considered a balanced figure where the shoulders and hips are equal in width. In other words, the upper body is in proportion with the lower body forming a narrower, defined waist. Just imagine the hourglass that has the shape of the letter X.

The last body type I want to mention is the INVERTED TRIANGLE. Imagine a triangle, now flip it. It’s as easy as pie.  You’ll have broad shoulders with slim legs and little to no waist definition. This shape tends to give an athletic-looking physique.

Basically, these are the 5 most common body types. However, if you deeply consider the details of each body, you’ll somehow find that one body type has different features. For instance, if you have a pear body type with specific features, your friend too might have a pear shape but with different features, which makes it challenging at first to guess the shape.

Once, I had a client who wanted me to analyze her body type. I took the measurements as I studied, which showed me that she has an hourglass figure as her shoulders’ measurements are the same as her hips. However, when she was trying on her outfits, I took a deeper look and found out that she is an apple despite the measurements that showed a totally different body shape. I intend to say that we should not only rely on measurements, but also look at every part of the body (from shoulders to bust, tummy, waist, hips, and legs) so we can analyze it as a whole.

Identifying your body type isn’t that easy; however, it’s super important as it will help you understand how to dress accordingly and feel comfortable in your own skin.
