Colour Analysis Anyone?!

Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and said: “wow! My face looks so bright and fresh!”? No, this is not your skincare routine performing its magic all of a sudden (though I’m sure it is impeccable), but the reason for this glowing face is another type of magic. It’s the color you’re wearing my dear lady! Some colors we wear give us that perfect glow we need to feel confident and happy about ourselves, yet some others work totally the opposite.

We, as stylists, refer to this as “color analysis”. It’s a way that can help identify your skin tone and find the colors that will make you look your best and enhance your natural features. You have no idea how amazing this experience is! In this method you will see how your skin color changes from one tone to another, from one shade to another! It’s just interesting to see the differences.

I know… I know… the virtual life is creeping in; however, this method has to be done in-person as it will teach you how to choose your colors when shopping, doing your nails, or even coloring your hair. It will also help you identify the makeup that will look best on you.

And…

Not just that! It will make you look young and fresh without makeup or botox! You’ve read that RIGHT!!!

Well, to begin with, you should understand the so-called “seasons” on which color analysis is based.

People fall into four categories: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Each season is associated with a particular range of colors that are believed to be most flattering for people with certain skin tones, eye colors, and hair colors. Below are the detailed characteristics of each category.

Spring: Soft, warm and bright colors.

People in the spring category typically have:

·       A warm skin tone with yellow or peach undertones

·       Light eyes or dark brown

·       Hair can be blond, strawberry blond, red, brown, and even black.

Summer: Soft, cool, and delicate colors.

People in the summer category typically have:

·       A cool skin tone with pink or blue undertones

·       Grey or pure blue eyes

·       Hair can be ash blond to brunette (no gold) and it is unusual for a summer to have dark hair or dark skin.

Autumn: Warm, rich, and muted colors.

People in the autumn category typically have:

·       A warm skin tone with yellow or gold undertones

·       Green, hazel, or brown eyes; occasionally blue

·       Hair can be blonde right through very dark brown, auburn and even black.

Winter: Bold, cool, and deep colors.

People in the winter category typically have:

·       A cool skin tone with pink or blue undertones

·       Dark, black, or cool blue eyes.

·       Hair can be ash blonde or dark.

I personally believe that there is more into color analysis. For me, it’s not just finding your WOW colors, but also getting to your personality/ style personality.

Let’s picture each season alone, shall we?

Starting off with spring, one of the warm seasons! The colors in this season are so bright and clear. Imagine the sun just shining on the green grass and trees, revealing the yellow tones in them. You can sense the warmth in spring by just looking at the flowers blooming.

Then comes summer. Because of the strong sunlight, the colors tend to fade away, showing colors softer than those in spring. However, you’ll still see some strong yet pale colors in this season. Usually, the latter is muted with the blue undertones, hence its association with the cool blue-based palettes.

Moving on to autumn. Oh, those earthy, rich colors of this season! You can definitely sense the warmth in this season, especially through the golden-orange leaves that fall from the trees.

The last season is winter. In this season, you’ll see a huge amount of white (aka the snow!). The colors are clear and icy with blue undertones, creating a strong, dramatic contrast.

As you can see, it’s all about nature; and as I say: “It’s how nature intended it to be”. Once you understand your colors along with your personality, everything will fall into place! You’ll understand what does wearing colors to feel goodmean.

I personally didn’t believe that until I began exploring my own colors! I started to see the difference between wearing my colors and wearing colors that don’t match my skin tone! I even experimented this with my daughter, and her reaction says it all! She was like “Wow mommy! I can see the difference!”

Your skin tone never changes, not with age nor with getting tanned. Therefore, color analysis can be done at any age and at any time! We just have to make sure that you’re sitting in the perfect lighting (preferably in daylight).
